JJGF Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
The Art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is rich with history from Japan, Brazil and now the United States of America. Beginning as a combat sport and a way for practitioners to defend themselves, this system of self defense is tried and true, through the grit and determination of one family. The Gracie's, they have proven, whether on the streets of Brazil or in the UFC, TUF sporting events and around the world, that their individual teachings have led to what is arguably the best fighting system around. Legends like Grand Master Helio Gracie, Master Rickson Gracie or Master Royce Gracie have provided this system with its greatest examples. To date it has grown into an ever popular way to maintain personal safety, promote a healthy life style and introduce the US to a popular and unique means of staying in shape. Designed in detail as a way for a smaller opponent to defend against a larger opponent. You will learn to use levers, fulcrums, weight distribution and connection, as well as other advantages to advance ones will and leverage against that same larger opponent. There are no age or gender restrictions, BJJ is for everyone, every gender, age and body type. Our school is an affiliate of the Jack Taufer Jiu Jitsu Association and member of the Jiu Jitsu Global Federation. We follow a strict curriculum that will provide you with the means to defend yourself. Professor Taufer has been an avid BJJ advocate and an anchor for the progression of BJJ in self defense. He has been involved in BJJ for 25 years. Initially training under Master Pedro Sauer, Jack was awarded his Blue Belt in 1996. All of his subsequent belts (Purple, Brown, Black and 1st and 2nd degree) were received from Master David Kama. Additionally, Jack has spent many hours training under the direct supervision of Master Rickson Gracie in both group and private settings

USJF Judo
Judo, or "the Way of Gentleness," developed from a form of Jujutsu in the late 18th century as a form of self defense and competition by Jigoro Kano, again as with Gracie Jiu Jitsu a way for a smaller opponent to defend against a large attacker. Judo has since become an Olympic sport and has practitioners called Judoka all around the world. We are an affiliate of Snyder Dojo Judo Team (out of Kalamazoo) and train under the guidance of Sensei Chris Snyder. Sensei Snyder has multiple competition accolades including being the 2002 US Judo National Champion. Sensei Snyder is a detailed instructor with a solid strict method of Judo instruction. We provide our youth practitioners with the ability to develop discipline and an aptitude for the art and sport. Our goal at MJJ is to build a strong and competitive team within the next 3 years that will compete with and alongside Snyder Dojo Judo Team.

Coach Shane Worley
- Retired US Navy Diver, Former Paramedic and Law Enforcement Officer practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu since 2007. Judo since 2012.
- My family and I moved to the area because of the draw of Marshall. This small community was a perfect fit. I am from Lansing/Grand Ledge originally, but have traveled our great country and a small portion of the world, however Marshall feels like home.
- We offer Judo, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Self Defense Training in a safe and welcoming environment free of judgement or ridicule.
